Women in the New Nigeria and Youth Empowerment Initiative (WINN) is a Nigerian national women-led non-governmental organization that was established in the year 2010 and incorporated in the year 2013. The organization is registered with the Borno State Government through the Borno State Agency for Coordination of Sustain-able Development and Humanitarian Response. WINN is also a registered and accredited member of the Network of Civil Society Organizations in Borno State (NESCOB) and a board member of the Network of Women-led Organizations in Borno State.

Empowering Nigerian Women to change the battered image of Nigeria, eradicating corruption through enlightenment programs, training, rallies, micro-credit schemes, advocacy and networking by diligent leadership and committed volunteers.

Our Focus

WINN focuses on women's and youth's empowerment, disability inclusion, health, protection, peacebuilding and conflict management, livelihood and agriculture, and gender equality. WINN is committed to ensuring good governance free of bias and corruption and strives to employ best practices for managing, implementing, and evaluating its organization and program activities. WINN provided support to over 900,000 beneficiaries across North-East Nigeria with both developmental and humanitarian programming, partnering with diverse civil society groups, government agencies, international non-governmental organizations, and United Nations agencies. WINN has strong expertise and a record of implementing programs on prevention and response to gender-based violence (SGBV/DBV), peacebuilding programs, education, livelihood, mental health and psychosocial support (MPHSS).

Our Team

WINN is powered by a diverse team of professionals with expertise in protection, gender-based violence/Disability based violence (GBV/DBV), inclusive education, MHPSS and livelihood support. At the heart of our operations is a dedicated core staff of seven full-time professionals overseeing leadership, programme management, finance, human resources, administration, security, and Driver/logistics.

 

Beyond this core team, WINN works closely with a strong workforce of 82 field staff and volunteers (14 field staff and 68 volunteers) across 26 communities in six LGAs of Borno State. These team members bring invaluable local knowledge and experience, ensuring that our programmes are community-driven and effectively implemented. Together, we are committed to advancing protection, empowerment, and resilience for women, girls, and vulnerable populations.

Our Areas of Intervention

Education (Formal and Informal)

We implement education projects in Borno State, including the management of learning centres for internally displaced persons (IDPs) and vulnerable children, in partnership with international organizations such as Save the Children and the International Rescue Committee (IRC).

Livelihoods and Food Security

We provide livelihood and agricultural support to conflict-affected communities in North-East Nigeria, helping to improve household food security, strengthen resilience, and promote sustainable environmental practices.

Disability Inclusion

WINN promotes the inclusion of persons with disabilities in community life by ensuring that programmes, services, and advocacy efforts are inclusive and responsive to their needs.

Advocacy, Governance, and Human Rights

We engage in advocacy for good governance, accountability, and the protection of human rights, with a strong focus on women and marginalized groups

Peacebuilding and Conflict Resolution

Our interventions foster peaceful coexistence and support community-led conflict resolution in areas affected by insurgency and displacement.

Child Protection and GBV/Disability-Based Violence Prevention

We work to combat child rights violations and address gender-based and disability-based violence by providing psychosocial support, awareness-raising, and survivor-centered services in IDP camps and local communities.

Health and Mental Health/Psychosocial Support (MHPSS)

WINN delivers health and psychosocial support services to strengthen the well-being of survivors, children, and vulnerable populations, promoting recovery and resilience
